Rio Tinto signs agreement with Nyangumarta group for Winu copper-gold mine development
Reuters2026/09/10 00:30- Rio Tinto signed a project agreement with Nyangumarta Warrarn Aboriginal Corporation for the proposed Winu copper-gold mine in Western Australia.
- The agreement grants Nyangumarta consent for the mine and infrastructure, subject to approvals and a final investment decision.
- Winu is Rio Tinto’s most advanced near-term greenfield copper project, targeting first copper by 2030.
- Rio Tinto will develop and operate Winu under a joint venture with Sumitomo Metal Mining, holding 70% versus 30%.
