Catalysts and Fundamentals

In fiscal Q1 2027, AVAV generated $480.5 million in revenue, up 6% year over year and above market expectations of roughly $452 million. Adjusted EPS came in at $0.59, far ahead of the consensus estimate of around $0.22.
More importantly, quarterly bookings reached $683 million, book-to-bill stood at 1.4x, and funded backlog climbed to a record $1.5 billion, up 37% year over year and 23% sequentially.
The core Autonomous Systems segment generated $346 million in revenue, up 21% year over year, with drones, loitering munitions, and counter-UAS systems remaining the main growth drivers. By contrast, revenue from the Space, Cyber and Directed Energy segment fell to $134.5 million, showing that performance across the company remains uneven.
The order pipeline also continues to generate new catalysts. Recent wins include a $117 million U.S. Army P550 contract, a $51 million Switchblade 600 order, and the first international order for the LOCUST laser counter-drone system. These contracts suggest that AVAV’s growth story continues to be backed by real defense procurement demand.

Earnings Outlook and Valuation

Management maintained its FY2027 guidance for revenue of $2.125 billion to $2.225 billion, adjusted EBITDA of $305 million to $325 million, and non-GAAP EPS of $3.02 to $3.34.
The company expects roughly 55% of full-year revenue, about two-thirds of adjusted EBITDA, and around 70% of EPS to be generated in the second half. That makes execution over the next two quarters especially important in determining whether earnings expectations can move into a more sustained upward revision cycle.
AVAV currently trades at roughly 39x forward earnings, down sharply from around 90x earlier in the year. That still represents a premium valuation relative to traditional defense names, but the company is exposed to structurally faster-growing areas such as autonomous systems, loitering munitions, and counter-UAS technologies.
If analysts begin to raise FY2027 and FY2028 earnings estimates more consistently, the current valuation could become much easier for the market to justify.

Technical Structure

AVAV fell to roughly $135.20 in late June before entering a low-level consolidation phase. Following the latest earnings report on September 10, the stock briefly rallied to an intraday high of $159.24 but closed at only $147.07, up 4.45%.
That price action suggests that the $150–160 area still carries meaningful overhead supply. The stock also remains well below its 200-day moving average, so the longer-term downtrend has not yet been fully reversed.
Near-term support is located around $140–145, with a stronger secondary support zone near $135. On the upside, $155–160 is the first major resistance area. A sustained breakout above $160 would improve the technical structure and open the door to a potential retest of the $170–175 range.

Trading Strategy

At this stage, AVAV is better viewed as a low-level fundamental recovery trade rather than a confirmed trend reversal.
Chasing the stock around $147 offers only moderate risk-reward. A more attractive setup would be a pullback toward $140–145 followed by clear support, or a volume-backed breakout above $160 that confirms improving momentum.
If AVAV can break and hold above $160, the next area to watch is $170–175. If the stock falls below $135, it would suggest that the post-earnings recovery has failed to change the broader downtrend, and bullish expectations should be reduced.

Once the Federal Reserve starts the rate hike cycle, is "three consecutive hikes" a reasonable expectation?

BMO expects consecutive rate hikes in October and December, with a total of three increases potentially wiping out all rate cut gains for 2025. Vanguard believes "three consecutive hikes" is a reasonable starting point, but the actual number could be as high as six. There are historical exceptions: in 1997, the Federal Reserve raised rates only once and took no further action for the following 18 months. Meanwhile, trillion-dollar debt financing by AI giants, private credit exposure in the insurance industry, and the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield approaching 5% are the most dangerous pressure points in this rate hike cycle.

Goldman Sachs Also Changes Its Tune: The Fed Will Raise Interest Rates Next Week!

Goldman Sachs has shifted from predicting a rate hold to betting on a 25 basis point hike next week, stating that this change is not due to particularly bad inflation data—the August CPI was not perfect, but it wasn’t alarming either. The real key is that hawkish comments from Waller have already shaped market expectations: "If the inflation data isn’t perfect, there will be a rate hike." If the Federal Reserve backs down now, its credibility will suffer a serious blow and long-term interest rates could react sharply and immediately.
