Researcher: If You Hold XRP, Don’t Make This Mistake

XRP holders preparing to move their assets may need to pay close attention to one detail before confirming a transaction. Crypto Researcher Michelle Kirby X warned XRP holders not to rush transfers without understanding how destination tags work.

In her tweet, Kirby X wrote, “IF YOU HOLD XRP, DON’T MAKE THIS MISTAKE!” She advised holders to stay focused, do their own research, and avoid allowing emotions to influence their decisions. According to her, one decision during an XRP transfer could result in a costly mistake.

The warning centers on the destination tag, a detail required when sending XRP to certain exchanges, custodial services, or other destinations.

Destination Tags Can Be Required for XRP Transfers

In the video attached to her tweet, Kirby X explained that the mistake is not related to the amount being transferred or necessarily the wallet itself. Instead, she focused on the destination tag, a number some services use to identify the specific recipient account associated with an XRP address.

She explained that while many cryptocurrencies require only a wallet address for transfers, XRP transactions sent to certain destinations may also require a destination tag, sometimes called a memo tag.

Kirby X compared the tag to an apartment number added to a street address. The wallet address identifies the broader destination, while the tag can help the receiving service identify the specific customer or account for the funds.

She warned that failing to include a required destination tag can create significant problems when trying to recover the funds. She also noted that XRP holders ask questions about where to find the tag, whether they need one, and what happens if they enter the wrong information.

Kirby X Promotes Cold Wallet Confidence Course

Kirby X said the recurring questions about destination tags influenced her decision to include a specific XRP-related step in her Cold Wallet Confidence video course. She said the course explains how XRP holders can transfer their cryptocurrency to a cold wallet while understanding the relevant steps.

The researcher also used the video to promote the course’s wait list. She said more than 1,000 people had already joined and stated that the wait list would close on Sunday, September 13. According to Kirby X, people on the waiting list will gain first access to the course and a price not available to the general public.

Kirby X concluded by stressing that destination tags are not inherently complicated. Her main concern is that many XRP holders may encounter the requirement without having received a clear explanation of how it works. For holders transferring XRP, her warning reinforces the importance of checking the receiving platform’s instructions carefully before confirming a transaction.
