- The Hormuz Strait Shipping Security Zone meeting, originally scheduled for Monday, has been officially postponed at the request of several Gulf countries. Oman and Iran have confirmed this news, and there is currently no new meeting date. The meeting was initially planned to announce the Strait channel management cooperation plan between Iran and Oman.
- Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to worsen. The Yemeni Houthi armed group is persistently launching missile and drone attacks on Saudi military bases and facilities, and has seized key islands along the Red Sea shipping lanes, causing severe disruption to the regional maritime shipping system.
- Another shipping incident occurred in the Hormuz Strait: passing merchant vessels were attacked with ammunition and caught fire, forcing the crew to evacuate urgently. The attack on an Iranian merchant ship resulted in casualties, and together with disruptions to critical Saudi oil pipelines, the risk to global crude oil supply has surged.
- Impacted by geopolitical conflict, international oil prices have risen sharply. Brent crude oil increased by over 2.7%, quoted at $107.5 per barrel; WTI crude oil rose by over 2.2%, quoted at $102.3 per barrel. Risk-averse sentiment in the energy market is strong.
- The US has stated it will handle the Iran situation flexibly, not ruling out adopting a Venezuela-style approach to managing Iranian oil resources. At the same time, it has rejected Saudi Arabia's request to strike the Houthi armed group. The market anticipates that the current round of the Iran conflict may conclude around this year's US midterm elections.
- Regional diplomatic tensions and instability persist. South Korea has publicly condemned the Houthi attacks and expressed support for Saudi Arabia. The United Nations has warned that the Yemen conflict has entered a new, highly dangerous phase, and regional instability may continue to expand and spill over.
