07:11 PM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canada is a safe place to invest in an "uncertain world," Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne told AFP on Monday, ahead of the Canada Investment Summit. Prime Minister Mark Carney is using the summit to encourage global business leaders to invest in Canada as the country seeks to diversify its economy and reduce its reliance on the US, AFP reported. Major US investors, including representatives from Bank of America and Berkshire Hathaway, are expected to attend, along with Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote and Gulf investment agencies, the report said. Champagne told AFP that attendees control more than CA$120 trillion ($86 trillion) in global capital. He said the government understands that speed and skill are needed to capitalize on the opportunity, the report said.
