Moody's Corp. has agreed to buy a minority stake in credit rating company Philippine Rating Services Corp.

The investment is set to expand Moody's Asia-Pacific network of local rating company affiliates, the New York-based financial services company said Monday.

As the Philippines' domestic bond market develops, credit ratings and research are crucial for issuers as they access new sources of capital and develop funding strategies, said Moody's. It estimates more than $100 billion of planned infrastructure investment in the Philippines over the next three years, which highlights the market's potential.

Philippine Rating Services' ratings will be a strong complement to Moody's global views on credit for investors in the Philippines, given its local insight, said Wendy Cheong, managing director and regional head of Asia-Pacific at Moody's Ratings.
