Driven by the continued growth in demand for artificial intelligence, chip stocks generally rose during the US stock market session. AMD (AMD.US) shares surged over 9% intraday, reaching an all-time high of $613.92, pushing the company's market capitalization above $1 trillion. AMD is considered one of the main competitors to the artificial intelligence leader NVIDIA (NVDA.US) in the graphics processing unit (GPU) market. AMD has become the fourth US chip manufacturer to surpass a $1 trillion market capitalization; previous companies to reach this scale include NVIDIA, Broadcom (AVGO.US), and Micron Technology (MU.US). NVIDIA surpassed a $1 trillion market cap in 2023 and is now the world's most valuable company, with a market capitalization exceeding $5 trillion. On Monday, most chip stocks rose together. Intel (INTC.US) shares rose about 11% intraday, Qualcomm (QCOM.US) increased 4.1%, and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gained 2.6%, reaching a one-month high.

Deutsche Bank: After the three major central banks hiked rates simultaneously, the market may once again underestimate the terminal interest rate

Deutsche Bank points out that as central banks in the US, Europe, and Japan are tightening policy simultaneously, the market may still be underpricing the eventual terminal rates. With oil prices remaining high, inflation may spill over into core inflation and wages. Moreover, financial conditions have not tightened in tandem, which could weaken the effect of rate hikes. Citing the experience of 2022, Deutsche Bank notes that the market then expected a total of around 200 basis points of Fed rate hikes in the first year, but the final figure exceeded 400 basis points, illustrating that the market often underestimates the terminal rate.
