Under the Rader: Viking Stock Gains on Weight-Loss Study -- WSJ

Shares of Viking Therapeutics surged roughly 30% Tuesday morning after the company reported its experimental weight-loss shot could help people keep the weight off at less-frequent doses. The move put the stock on pace for its biggest one-day percentage gain since February 2024.
In the study, patients who switched from weekly to every-other-week dosing kept off an average of 90% of the weight they initially lost. Those who switched to a once-monthly maintenance dose maintained an average of 85% of their weight loss, compared with roughly 61% in the placebo group.
"The efficacy is impressive, though preserving these reductions with fewer injections provides the more differentiated finding," Citi analyst Geoff Meacham said.
