Sector Update: Energy

01:21 PM EDT, 09/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Energy stocks were mixed Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index up 0.1% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) fractionally lower. The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index added 0.6%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index was slightly lower. Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined 1.2% to $91.23 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract shed 0.5% to $99.89 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures gained 4.4% to $2.96 per 1 million BTU. In corporate news, Abu Dhabi's XRG is considering taking a stake in the Shell-backed (SHEL) LNG Canada project, Bloomberg reported. Shell shares were up 0.9%.
