ICE says US mortgage delinquency rate rises 14 bps to 3.53% in August on calendar effects

- U.S. delinquency rate rose 14 bps to 3.53%; up 10 bps from a year earlier, still below pre-pandemic August levels.
- Serious delinquencies increased by 11,000 to 574,000; serious delinquency rate held near pre-pandemic norms at 1.04%.
- Foreclosure starts fell 6% to 37,000; foreclosure sales slipped 2% to 7,800, both still higher year over year.
- Pre-sale foreclosure inventory rate stayed at 0.54%; prepayments slowed with SMM down to 0.64%, a 17-month low.
