06:34 AM EDT, 09/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms (META) has classified its AI data centers as experimental projects to claim billions of dollars in research tax credits, The New York Times reported Wednesday. Meta's research tax credit savings rose to $3.9 billion in 2025 from $2 billion in 2024 and $700 million in 2023, with the company applying the credit to AI data center costs, including chips, since 2024, the report said. Meta disclosed legal uncertainty around its research tax credits in its annual financial filing, with unrecognized tax benefits rising 45% to $18.74 billion from $12.9 billion two years ago, the report added. Meta Platforms did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for a comment. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
