Eurozone manufacturing PMI rises to 52.9 in September, expansion accelerates

(1) S&P Global Eurozone Manufacturing PMI for September 2026 rose to 52.9, the highest since May 2022, exceeding the preliminary value of 52.7. (2) Demand improved significantly, with new orders growing at the fastest pace since March 2022. Export sales expanded for the second consecutive month, marking the first sustained growth in more than four and a half years. (3) Rising demand also put pressure on factory capacity, with backlogs of orders increasing for the first time since April and at the fastest rate in nearly four and a half years. (4) Employment saw a slight uptick, reversing a long-term trend of layoffs; manufacturers accelerated their purchases of raw materials and intermediate goods, with growth among the fastest since May 2022. (5) Supply delays persisted but eased to their lowest since February. Meanwhile, business confidence reached a seven-month high, but both input and output price pressures accelerated.
