The winning bidder will control a key segment in the supply chain that plays a crucial role in the competitive HDD market, which is currently dominated by three companies. TDK is presently the only independent manufacturer of HDD magnetic recording heads, supplying not only to both bidders but also to Western Digital (WDC.US).
