Stocks Rise Pre-Bell After Nasdaq Reaches New Record High
MT newswire2026/10/06 11:5607:56 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were tracking in the green on Tuesday following gains in the previous session, when the tech-heavy Nasdaq reached a record closing high. The S&P 500 rose 0.2%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.5%, and the Nasdaq 100 added 0.3% in premarket activity. The indexes finished Monday trading strong, with the Nasdaq Composite hitting a new peak. Shares of major companies in the artificial intelligence trade were trending upwards pre-bell, including SpaceX (SPCX), Nvidia (NVDA), Tesla (TSLA), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Qualcomm (QCOM). Microsoft (MSFT), Meta Platforms (META) and Amazon (AMZN) were also up early Tuesday. Treasury yields were down, with the two-year rate retreating 2.1 basis points to 4.81% and the 10-year rate falling 3.4 basis points to 5.28%. The latter reached its highest level since April 2002 on Monday, according to CNBC. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to post minutes from its September policy meeting on Wednesday, which will be assessed for fresh insight into the central bank's monetary policy. At that meeting, the central bank raised interest rates by 25 basis points, its first hike in just over three years, to combat inflation that has run persistently above its 2% target. Markets are currently pricing in a 78% probability that the Fed will keep its benchmark rate steady this month, with the remaining odds in favor of a 25-basis-point hike, according to the CME FedWatch tool. Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman is scheduled to speak at 10:45 am ET. New York Fed President John Williams, Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan are also slated to speak on Tuesday. Tuesday's thin economic calendar has the international trade in goods and services report for August at 8:30 am. West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined 1.9% to $87.76 a barrel, while Brent dropped 1.8% to $98.49.
