On October 6th, Tuesday, U.S. nuclear energy and utilities sector stocks rose due to the spillover effect from a power cooperation agreement between Alphabet, the parent company of Google (GOOGL.O), and Constellation Energy (CEG.O). CEG's stock surged by over 13% after GOOGL and CEG entered into a multi-year agreement (link) for GOOGL to purchase 3,590 megawatts of power from CEG. The two companies stated that roughly one-quarter of this power will come from newly built nuclear projects. The agreement was signed as major technology companies are racing to secure large-scale electricity supplies to meet the growing energy demand from data centers across the United States. Shares of companies developing small nuclear reactors soared: NuScale Power (SMR.N) rose 7%, Nano Nuclear Energy (NNE.O) rose 8%, Oklo (OKLO.N) rose 7.5%. Uranium producers also saw gains: Centrus Energy (LEU.N) increased 11%, enCore Energy (EU.O) rose 8%, and Uranium Energy (UEC.A) climbed 8%. Nuclear utilities gained as well: Vistra (VST.N) up 10%, GE Vernova (GEV.N) up 5%, and Talen Energy (TLN.O) up 13%. Meanwhile, NRG Energy (NRG.N), which supplies power to data centers, rose 7%.
