MT newswire2026/10/07 14:2010:20 AM EDT, 10/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) Google DeepMind, Meta (META), and Isomorphic Labs are collectively investing $300 million in Biohub's Virtual Biology Initiative to build datasets for artificial intelligence models to predict and treat disease, Biohub said Wednesday. The investments will be used to create technologies and multi-modal datasets to enable the global scientific community to build and use AI models, allowing researchers to ask, predict, and answer biological questions digitally, Biohub said. Biohub added that the US Department of Energy will invest more than $500 million over five years in lab measurement, modeling and computation towards the initiative. Additionally, the US National Institutes of Health will coordinate the contribution of relevant datasets, repositories, and knowledge bases developed through over $500 million in prior similar federal initiatives, Biohub said. Korean retail investors shift to the US in Q3: Sold over 5.5 trillion won of Korean stocks, purchased more than 10 trillion won of US stocks
In the third quarter, Korean retail investors made net purchases of US stocks worth approximately 10.15 trillion won, marking a complete reversal from the previous pattern in the first half of the year, when they made net purchases of nearly 100 trillion won in KOSPI stocks. In September alone, the sell-off amount reached as high as 14.2 trillion won. Analysts attribute this shift to a combination of factors: a sharp decline in KOSPI at high levels, the continued strength of the US stock market driven by AI themes, and the appreciation of the Korean won reducing currency exchange costs.
