Oracle, Broadcom, SpaceX Seek Debt Financing for AI Chips

According to The Wall Street Journal, Oracle, Broadcom, and SpaceX are seeking debt agreements for AI chip procurement. Broadcom is arranging over 50 billions USD in funding for chips required by OpenAI. Oracle is in talks with Apollo and Goldman Sachs regarding chip financing. Recently, the Financial Times reported that SpaceX is seeking 40 billions USD in financing to purchase Nvidia chips. SpaceX plans to raise around 10 billions USD in bank loans, plus 30 billions USD in investment-grade bonds.

According to sources, Solidigm, the flash memory business subsidiary under SK Hynix (SKHY.US), has selected Goldman Sachs (GS.US) and Morgan Stanley (MS.US) to manage its US IPO planned for next year. JPMorgan, Citigroup, and UBS have also been invited to participate in the listing. Solidigm could go public as early as 2027, with a potential valuation as high as 100 billions USD. The relevant discussions are ongoing, so specific details might change, and additional banks may also join.

The US Department of Defense plans to offer a $1.5 billion loan commitment to Wolfspeed.

The U.S. Department of Defense has provided Wolfspeed (WOLF.US), a chip manufacturer, with a conditional senior secured loan commitment of up to $1.5 billions for a 30-year term, to support domestic production of silicon carbide materials and wide bandgap power devices. According to deal terms still under negotiation, Wolfspeed will grant the Department of Defense warrants to purchase up to 7.5% of the company’s shares in stages. Last July, Wolfspeed filed for bankruptcy due to production issues at a key silicon carbide wafer manufacturing plant. The company stated that the funds would be used to expand production of silicon carbide materials and power devices for the telecommunications, aerospace, and defense sectors, and to upgrade material supply capability for military communication systems. Following the announcement, Wolfspeed’s stock price surged over 28% after hours.
