This investment will be implemented through three pathways: supporting American universities in acquiring computational infrastructure; increasing investment in the field of quantum computing in the United States; and supporting cloud service providers that meet the mission needs of the U.S. government. Jensen Huang stated that this investment will place superintelligent capabilities into the hands of American scientists, "This is the path for the United States to turn scientific leadership into industrial leadership and innovation into employment opportunities."

NVIDIA has announced an investment of $1 billion in resources for the U.S. scientific research sector over the next five years, with a focus on quantum computing, healthcare, and energy security—areas critical to the United States' strategic standing. The company aims to further deepen its collaborations among industry, academia, and the U.S. government.

This pledge was officially unveiled at the "Science: The New Golden Age" event held in Washington, attended by U.S. officials, industry leaders, and representatives from the scientific community.

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announced an expansion of the "Genesis Mission" at the event. As a key industry partner of this program, NVIDIA immediately announced the above-mentioned investment commitment.

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated that the $1 billion investment will put advanced superintelligence capabilities into the hands of American scientists, aiming to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy, and materials. "This is the path by which America converts scientific leadership into industrial leadership, and transforms innovation into job opportunities."

Investments Cover Universities, Quantum Computing, and Government Cloud Services

According to NVIDIA’s specific plans, this $1 billion commitment will be implemented over five years through three channels:

Supporting U.S. higher education and research institutions with access to computing power and superintelligent infrastructure; increasing investment in U.S. leadership in quantum computing; and supporting cloud service providers that serve U.S. government mission requirements.

NVIDIA also announced that it will participate as a partner in several phase two "Genesis Mission" projects, covering quantum computing, nuclear fusion, accelerator design, and microelectronics.

More Than 20 Years of Collaboration with U.S. National Laboratories

NVIDIA’s partnership with U.S. national laboratories has spanned more than two decades.

Last year, the company announced a collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the "Genesis Mission" framework. One core project is building the DOE’s largest scientific research supercomputer at Argonne National Laboratory.

In addition, NVIDIA has also supported Argonne and Los Alamos National Laboratories with seven new systems, further strengthening the DOE’s core mission to drive technological leadership.

BUZZ - Tobacco and alcohol stocks lead gains in the consumer staples sector

On October 8, Thursday, Philip Morris International (PM.N) became the top gainer in the S&P 500 Consumer Staples sector (.SPLRCS), followed by alcoholic beverage company Constellation Brands (STZ.N) and Altria Group (MO.N), both ranking among the day's biggest gainers. Shares of Philip Morris International (PM), a supplier of cigarettes and smoke-free nicotine products, rose about 4% to $200.89, set for a fourth consecutive session of gains and marking the largest single-day increase since July 16. Marlboro cigarette maker Altria gained 2.9% to $71.36. Earlier, British peer Imperial Brands (IMB.L) said it expects to meet its full-year guidance and announced a £1.5 billions ($1.98 billions) share buyback plan, as robust growth in tobacco alternatives helped offset declining cigarette sales. STZ, which produces beer, wine, and spirits, rose over 3% to $122.35 on the second trading day after releasing its quarterly report, despite several brokerages lowering their price targets. JPMorgan, however, raised its target from $133 to $136. Cetera Chief Investment Officer Gene Goldman noted on Thursday that there is “a rotation from growth stocks to defensive stocks” in the market, adding that “rising yields and wider credit spreads are putting pressure on AI and growth stocks.” He also pointed out that valuations in the sector are improving. Over the past three months, the sector has underperformed the broader S&P 500, falling 1% versus the benchmark’s 3.9% rise. Among the five S&P sectors that did not decline on Thursday, the Consumer Staples Index posted the second-largest gain, up 1.6%.
