Market Chatter: Meta Platforms Bans TikTok Ads Across Its Apps
MT newswire2026/10/08 23:5407:54 PM EDT, 10/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms Inc. (META) began restricting advertisements from ByteDance, TikTok's former controlling owner, across its platforms in the US and several other countries, escalating competition between the companies, Bloomberg reported Thursday. The ban covers the US, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam, including third-party campaigns linking to TikTok and other ByteDance properties, according to Bloomberg. "We don't have to run ads from a competitor whose goal is to pull people off our apps. Declining promotional services to a competitor is a normal business practice across industries", a Meta spokesperson said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires. "We will continue to compete on product quality and user experience", the spokesperson added. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally. Korean retail investors shift to the US in Q3: Sold over 5.5 trillion won of Korean stocks, purchased more than 10 trillion won of US stocks
In the third quarter, Korean retail investors made net purchases of US stocks worth approximately 10.15 trillion won, marking a complete reversal from the previous pattern in the first half of the year, when they made net purchases of nearly 100 trillion won in KOSPI stocks. In September alone, the sell-off amount reached as high as 14.2 trillion won. Analysts attribute this shift to a combination of factors: a sharp decline in KOSPI at high levels, the continued strength of the US stock market driven by AI themes, and the appreciation of the Korean won reducing currency exchange costs.
