Market Chatter: BHP Cuts 300 Jobs in Australia as Iron Ore Costs Rise

MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/14 08:46
04:46 AM EDT, 10/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- BHP (BHP) plans to eliminate 300 jobs across four iron ore mines in Western Australia's Pilbara region as lower prices and rising costs pressure the business, Bloomberg reported Wednesday. The cuts will affect South Flank, Mining Area C, Newman and Jimblebar, which together employ about 16,000 people, the report said. The company said it would explore other job opportunities for affected workers, according to the report. BHP did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
