SOL Price Under Pressure: Why Alpenglow Could Be a Turning Point

  • Alpenglow aims to reduce transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds.
  • Large SOL sales increased pressure, but trading volume recently surged 52%.
  • Analysts see potential upside if SOL holds ascending channel support levels.

Solana faces an important moment as October approaches. SOL remains under pressure after a difficult week, yet a major network upgrade could change the conversation. Traders continue watching price action closely while developers prepare for a long-awaited technical milestone. Recent selling has weighed on market sentiment, but growing anticipation around Alpenglow has created fresh interest. The coming weeks may determine whether SOL extends recent weakness or begins building momentum for a stronger recovery.

Alpenglow Brings the Biggest Consensus Change Yet

SOL traded near $107.80 at the time of writing. The token gained roughly 0.3% over the previous day. Trading activity increased sharply, with 24-hour volume climbing 52% to $4.07 billion. Despite that improvement, the token remains down more than 10.5% over the last week. Part of the market’s attention now centers on Alpenglow. Solana developer Anza confirmed a mainnet-beta launch date of October 21. The upgrade follows 18 months of development focused on improving network performance.

The main goal involves much faster transaction finality. Current finality takes around 12.8 seconds. Alpenglow aims to reduce that figure to roughly 150 milliseconds. Such a reduction would represent a major leap forward for network responsiveness. A key change involves replacing TowerBFT, Solana’s original voting system. The new framework introduces Votor. Under this approach, validators exchange votes directly. Those votes become combined into certificates. Blocks then achieve finality after one or two voting rounds.

Another important benefit comes from removing vote transactions. That change frees valuable blockspace for regular users. Reported transaction counts could decline after activation. However, lower numbers would not necessarily signal weaker network activity. Validators must also prepare carefully. Operators need software based on Agave 4.3.0. Meanwhile, Firedancer and Frankendancer operators face temporary adjustments before migration completion. Voting expenses will also change. A flat admission fee replaces the previous voting cost structure.

Can SOL Rebound After Recent Selling?

Technical improvements arrive during a challenging period for price action. Market sentiment weakened after a large sale by SkyAI. According to Lookonchain, the treasury firm sold 1 million SOL worth roughly $107 million. Another 1 million SOL remains under company control. Large transactions often create uncertainty among traders. That pressure contributed to recent caution across the market. Even so, some analysts remain optimistic.

Analyst BATMAN noted that SOL has returned to the lower boundary of an ascending channel. A previous channel structure produced a sharp upward move. Another strong rally could emerge if current support continues holding. For now, traders have two major factors to watch. The first involves the success of the Alpenglow rollout. The second centers on whether buyers defend current price levels. If both align positively, October could mark an important turning point for Solana and the broader outlook for SOL.
