Shiba Inu’s community has grown increasingly anxious as lead developer Shytoshi Kusama continues his extended absence on X, where he last posted or interacted on May 13, 2026. Despite minimal updates from Kusama himself, low-level activity continues across the broader Shiba Inu ecosystem, with developers and community members maintaining momentum on multiple fronts.
Shiba Inu lead Shytoshi Kusama silent since May, ecosystem activity persists
Speculation over Kusama’s absence
Shytoshi Kusama, Shiba Inu’s principal figure and the public face of the project, has maintained a low online profile for several months. In September 2026, Kusama updated his X bio to the word “Polish” and changed his location to “Close.” These ambiguous modifications fueled speculation among followers about potential ongoing projects nearing completion, but Kusama has not provided clarity regarding whether these changes relate to Shiba Inu, his artificial intelligence endeavors, or another initiative.
Kusama’s social media silence comes at a pivotal time for the popular meme coin, whose developer base and online following are accustomed to regular updates and public engagement from the project lead.
Kusama’s last visible change on X, simply updating his bio to “Polish” and his location to “Close,” sparked community debate over whether major Shiba Inu developments are imminent.
The lack of official statements from Kusama has left many in the community looking for signals about the direction of the project and the status of ongoing developments.
Shibarium developments continue
Despite the absence of direct updates from Kusama, the Shiba Inu ecosystem has experienced ongoing development activity, particularly around its layer-2 network, Shibarium. The network, designed to reduce transaction costs and improve scalability for the Shiba Inu token and related assets, has undergone several technical updates in recent weeks.
Community member Mazrael reported on X in September 2026 that the Shibarium “reorg” issue, discussed in earlier months, has now been resolved according to developer Kaal Dhairya. The only remaining task is for the Decentralized Remote Procedure Call (DRPC) service to complete the same transition in the new environment.
Mazrael also stated that Shibarium remains in a rebuild phase. Nonetheless, the platform has incorporated new features and improvements, including the launch of CreateX, which enables developers to deploy contracts at identical addresses across multiple blockchains. The rollout of all 12 Safe v1.4.1 contracts at canonical addresses was completed via the Safe Singleton Factory.
Additionally, the x402 component is now fully operational on Shibarium, facilitating payments for AI agents using SHIB, TREAT, or wrapped BONE tokens.
Mini dictionary: Shibarium is Shiba Inu’s layer-2 blockchain solution built to improve transaction speeds and lower fees for users holding SHIB and related tokens. The platform aims to expand the utility of the Shiba Inu ecosystem beyond simple token transfers.
Infrastructure enhancements
The Shibarium Remote Procedure Call (RPC) listing was refreshed in the Ethereum-lists/chains registry, giving users updated technical details for establishing network connections. According to the latest updates, Chainlist also now provides these new connection parameters.
In September, Shiba Inu’s official website and the ShibaSwap page migrated to Cloudflare, with support for IPv6 added. This change moves the infrastructure away from its former hosting provider, enhancing online performance and security for users accessing core Shiba Inu services.
