- Visa (V.N) reported on Tuesday that its fourth-quarter profit jumped significantly , indicating that U.S. consumer spending remained resilient supported by a robust job market and wage growth, as more consumers paid for travel, shopping, and dining out with cards.

The FIFA World Cup held from June 11 to July 19 also boosted transaction activity on Visa’s network, as the event brought a wave of tourists to the United States.

Payment transaction volume—a metric tracking consumer and business spending on the Visa network—surged 9% in the quarter. Cross-border transaction volume excluding intra-Europe transactions—a measure of international travel demand—soared 14%.

Shares fell more than 1% in after-hours trading. As of the previous session’s close, the stock had gained 14.6% this year.

Billions of people worldwide use Visa and Mastercard for everyday purchases and other shopping, making these credit card networks more able to withstand economic downturns. They also have greater spending flexibility to support profit growth.

Net revenue for the quarter jumped 13% to $12.1 billion. In fiscal year 2026, Visa set a record with $46 billion in net revenue.

The company’s digital payments network spans over 200 countries and regions, earning most of its fees through processing transactions.

The world’s largest payment processor posted net profit of $6.0 billion, or $3.19 per share, for the three months ended September 30, up from $5.1 billion, or $2.62 per share, a year earlier.

Visa expects net revenue growth in fiscal 2027 to be in the low double-digit percentage range. Earnings per share are forecast to grow from the low double digits to the low teens percentages.

Its nearest competitor Mastercard (MA.N) will release its quarterly results later this week.
