The US Ambassador to Bangladesh stated that as the Trump administration promotes expanding American energy exports, Bangladesh is expected to sign more agreements to purchase US liquefied natural gas (LNG). US Ambassador Brent Christensen said that the Bangladeshi government is currently reviewing multiple LNG sales proposals and may also reach liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) purchase agreements in the future. He said, “We believe several agreements will be signed soon. We want to ensure that our allies and partners have reliable sources of energy supply.” Due to the Middle East war disrupting LNG shipments from Qatar, Bangladesh is currently facing a fuel supply shortage. The supply interruption is forcing Asian countries to seek alternative sources. As the world’s largest natural gas exporter, the US is actively trying to fill the supply gap. Christensen stated that the US estimates the size of Bangladesh’s LNG market could reach around $10 billion next year, and may grow to $30 billion by 2050.
