Shopify (SHOP.US) on the Eve of Earnings: Can the AI Monetization Logic Hedge against Valuation Correction?
Shopify's share price has retreated 13% from its yearly high, but Q2 revenue surged by 33.6% year-on-year. As its collaboration with Meta Muse deepens, the market is focusing on its AI monetization capabilities and whether it can meet the Q3 revenue expectation of $3.74 billions.
According to Woofun AI, Shopify (SHOP.US) shares have recently been affected by the "SaaSpocalypse" panic, falling back to $154.20—a drop of approximately 13% from this year’s high of $180.80.
Despite the overall revaluation pressure on software stocks, the upcoming earnings report from this global e-commerce software giant will be a key moment to test its fundamental resilience.
From a fundamental perspective, Shopify (SHOP.US) demonstrated strong growth momentum in the second quarter. Data compiled by Woofun AI shows the company’s Q2 revenue jumped from $2.68 billion a year ago to $3.58 billion, with the merchant solutions business contributing $2.7 billion. Net profit was also impressive, reaching $1.5 billion; even after excluding the impact of equity investments, adjusted net profit still exceeded $1.06 billion. Of particular interest is the progress of its AI strategy: Shopify (SHOP.US) recently reached a deep partnership with Meta (META.US)'s Muse, allowing the AI agent to directly browse and purchase store goods using Shopify's (SHOP.US) quick payment feature—injecting a new technological variable into future revenue growth.
Wall Street remains optimistic about Shopify’s (SHOP.US) outlook, with analysts generally forecasting its Q3 revenue to grow 31.6% year-on-year to $3.74 billion and earnings per share expected to rise to $0.46. Multiple institutions have recently raised their target prices: Citi (C.US) from $196 to $216, Oppenheimer (OPY.US) from $175 to $205, RBC Bank (RY.US) to $200, and Stifel (SF.US) set it at $210. From a technical perspective, SHOP (SHOP.US) shares remain above both the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages and the supertrend indicator, forming a cup-and-handle pattern with an upper edge at $180 and a lower edge at $94—suggesting potential room for a rebound.
If, after the earnings release, the stock price breaks through the crucial resistance at $180, it will have a 14.5% upside from the current price, and could potentially move further towards $200. This marks an important repricing in the market’s view of Shopify (SHOP.US) as it transitions from a tool provider to a transaction infrastructure player, following the integration of AI agents into e-commerce closed loops.
