$GRVT Funds from an address linked to the Ledger user thefts were converted from 2 million $USDT into $USDD on Oct. 9, Tron transaction records show, moving that portion of the money outside Tether’s $USDT freeze controls.
The conversion records show four exchanges of 500,000 $USDT each through $USDD’s peg stability module between 7:26 a.m. and 7:32 a.m. ET. Those swaps preceded the wider incident’s first blacklist actions at about 8:09 a.m. ET, according to blockchain analytics firm Bitquery’s investigation.
For victims, the distinction is consequential: freezing $USDT can prevent its movement, but that power does not extend to $USDD. Bitquery estimated that Tether froze $10 million in 20 wallets, against its broader estimate of $92.9 million stolen. Neither converting funds nor freezing them establishes how much victims will ultimately recover.
A Route Out of $USDT
The trace begins with `TK6DWN…XT6C`, one of the addresses that tracking platform MistTrack linked to the thefts. MistTrack said reported losses were “approaching $90 million” and that affected users had contacted it for assistance.
Tron transfer records show that address sent about 10 million $USDT to `TPZwqN…uSSk`. The recipient then sent 2 million $USDT to `TMkfPX…vFiY`, which exchanged it for an equal quantity of $USDD in four successful transactions.
That is one traced conversion route, not a total for the incident. Bitquery’s wider analysis estimated that 14.9 million $USDT had been swapped into $USDD. Security firm Hacken explained the limitation: “Tether’s $USDT freeze controls do not apply to $USDD.”
The movements show why the freeze previously reported by The Defiant cannot be read as recovery of the full stolen amount. Bitquery’s $10 million frozen figure is an analyst estimate, not an announced repayment to customers. Its investigation says blocked $USDT can later be destroyed and reissued; a blacklist action itself does not return money to victims.
Ledger said it was investigating losses among Southeast Asian customers who bought devices from reseller CryptoBilis and had asked the reseller to pause sales and shipments. Its notice did not establish how the funds were taken.
Ledger advised buyers from the past 90 days who had not initialized their devices to delay setup. Customers who had already done so should “consider moving assets to a new Ledger signer (with new seed),” it said.
How to read your trading reward estimator
A reward estimate can attract attention, but understanding how it works is far more valuable than simply looking at the number.
In the supplied Bitget Alliance dashboard screenshot, the estimated total trading reward is 44.94 USDT, while today's trading volume is displayed as unavailable against a reference of 50,000 USDT.
The important question is not just how much the dashboard estimates. It is what that estimate represents, which factors influence it, and what users should verify before expecting a final payout.
For traders participating in the Bitget Alliance Program, understanding these details can help turn the dashboard into a useful planning tool rather than a source of unrealistic expectations.
✦ 1. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝟰𝟰.𝟵𝟰 𝗨𝗦𝗗𝗧 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻?
The screenshot displays an estimated total trading reward of 44.94 USDT.
This figure should be treated as an estimate, not confirmation that the amount has already been earned or credited.
The final reward can depend on qualifying trading activity, the applicable calculation period, the total eligible activity of participating users, and the campaign's reward allocation rules.
It is therefore important to separate three things:
- Estimated reward: The amount currently projected by the dashboard.
- Final calculated reward: The amount determined under the applicable campaign rules.
- Paid reward: The amount confirmed as credited to the user's account.
These figures may differ. A dashboard estimate provides useful information, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed payout.
✦ 2. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
The screenshot shows today's trading volume as “--” against a displayed reference of 50,000 USDT.
That display alone does not establish that the account has generated zero volume. It may mean the figure is unavailable or has not yet updated.
Users should check whether the dashboard has refreshed and whether their trades fall within the program's eligible activity categories.
It is also important to understand that displayed trading volume and qualifying trading volume are not necessarily identical. The applicable campaign rules determine which transactions count.
Most importantly, 50,000 USDT should not automatically be interpreted as a minimum requirement simply because it appears beside today's volume. Users should verify what that reference represents in the relevant dashboard or campaign terms.
Before changing your trading activity, confirm the data and understand the qualifying conditions.
✦ 3. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱
Under the Alliance Program structure described in the applicable campaign materials, Trading Rewards are allocated according to each participant's eligible trading activity relative to the total eligible activity of participants.
A simplified representation is:
Your eligible trading contribution ÷ Total eligible trading contribution × Applicable trading reward pool
This explains why personal trading volume alone cannot determine the final reward.
For example, two users may generate similar eligible trading volumes but receive different rewards if the total eligible activity or applicable reward pool differs.
The estimate may also change as qualifying activity and the calculation period progress.
The practical lesson is to understand how your contribution fits into the overall calculation instead of assuming that a particular trading volume guarantees a fixed payout.
Always confirm the exact formula, caps, thresholds, and qualifying period in the terms for your active campaign.
✦ 4. 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁
This is one of the most important lessons for traders.
Increasing trading volume may affect potential reward calculations, but it also creates additional exposure to fees, spreads, slippage, funding costs, and market volatility.
A trader who enters unnecessary positions solely to increase an estimate could end up worse off, even if the projected reward increases.
Before taking another trade, consider whether it fits your strategy, whether the potential risk is acceptable, and whether the trade makes sense independently of the campaign.
Rewards should complement a disciplined trading approach, not replace it.
A larger estimate is not automatically a better outcome if achieving it requires taking risks you would otherwise avoid.
✦ 5. 𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀
To use the estimator more effectively, follow a simple review process:
Step 1 — Check the dashboard. Confirm that the displayed estimate and trading activity have updated.
Step 2 — Verify eligibility. Review which products, transactions, and account activities qualify under the current campaign.
Step 3 — Understand the calculation period. Check the campaign dates and how eligible activity is measured.
Step 4 — Evaluate trading costs. Consider fees and risk before making any change to your normal trading plan.
Step 5 — Verify the final result. Once the relevant settlement occurs, check the reward records or transaction history to confirm the amount actually credited.
This process helps users distinguish between an estimate, qualifying activity, and a completed payout.
✦ 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡
The 44.94 USDT displayed on the dashboard is a useful reference, but its real value lies in understanding how the estimate is calculated and what must happen before a reward is confirmed.
Check your qualifying activity, verify the campaign rules, monitor settlement, and avoid unnecessary trades just to increase a projected amount.
The goal is not simply to see a bigger number. It is to understand the calculation behind it and make informed decisions.
