IBM's Anderon Unit Wins $1 Billion CHIPS Award for US Quantum Foundry

07:45 AM EDT, 09/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- IBM's (IBM) Anderon Unit has won a $1 billion contract from the US Department of Commerce under the CHIPS and Science Act. The company, which operates a quantum wafer foundry in Albany, New York, said the funding will accelerate its research and development as well as quantum wafer manufacturing abilities. Anderon said its first quantum wafers are already running through the manufacturing facility. The agreement follows a letter of intent between IBM and the Commerce Department announced in May.
