Greif to Exit Coated Recycled Paperboard Market, Close Georgia Mill

08:48 AM EDT, 09/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Greif (GEF) will leave the coated recycled paperboard market and close its Sweetwater paperboard mill in Austell, Georgia, by the end of the year, to focus its resources on businesses with leading market position, the company said Wednesday. The shutdown will impact roughly 90 workers and eliminate around 120,000 tons of yearly manufacturing capacity, the company said. Greif plans to shift its uncoated recycled paperboard clients to other facilities within its North American mill network, it said. Shares of the company were up 0.8% in Wednesday premarket activity.
