Institutional demand fueled the surge, as traditional finance players shifted toward regulated futures for hedging and exposure. CME overtook Binance in Bitcoin futures open interest during the year, highlighting a broader migration to compliant venues. The growth outpaced CME’s overall 6% rise in average daily volume across all asset classes.

Q4 Momentum Peaks Amid Market Volatility

Fourth-quarter performance shattered prior records, with average daily volume climbing to 379,000 contracts or $13.3 billion notional. December capped the year at 339,000 contracts daily, the strongest month-end ever recorded. This resilience persisted despite cryptocurrency price downturns, underscoring sustained interest in derivatives.

Ether products showed particular strength, reflecting optimism around Ethereum’s ecosystem upgrades and spot ETF approvals. Bitcoin futures also benefited from macroeconomic hedges against inflation and policy shifts under President Trump’s administration. Regulated platforms like CME provide critical infrastructure for pension funds, banks, and asset managers entering the space.

Institutional adoption accelerates in regulated markets

The volumes signal deepening integration of crypto into mainstream finance. CME’s crypto complex now ranks among the exchange’s fastest-growing segments. Traditional players favour these products for their transparency, margin efficiency, and oversight by the CFTC. This trend aligns with broader 2025 milestones, such as spot Bitcoin and Ether ETF in-kind redemptions approved by the SEC.

This institutional shift aligns with broader market trends: global digital asset investment product inflows reached $47.2B in 2025, near a record, driven by strong growth in Ethereum, XRP, and Solana products.

SK Hynix (SKHY.US) Q3 revenue surpasses 100 trillion KRW for the first time, why did net profit drop by half quarter-on-quarter?

SK Hynix's Q3 revenue surpassed 100 trillion KRW for the first time, and operating profit reached a record high, but net profit fell 58% quarter-on-quarter. The main reason is that the base for Kioxia investment income was high in Q2, and there was no such one-off income this quarter. The actual business operations remain strong.
