UK Communications Regulator Launches Investigation into X Platform
PANews, January 12 – According to CCTV, the UK communications regulator Ofcom has launched a formal investigation into the US social media platform X under the UK Online Safety Act to determine whether it has fulfilled its obligation to protect UK users from illegal content. In a press release issued the same day, Ofcom stated that there have been reports of the "Grok" chatbot account on X being used to generate and disseminate sexually explicit content involving real individuals, with victims including several adult women and minors. These actions are deeply concerning. The statement noted that Ofcom has decided to formally investigate X to determine whether it has failed to meet its legal obligations under the Online Safety Act. The first step of the investigation is to gather and analyze evidence to determine whether any violations have occurred.
