- Core inflation in the US remained moderate in July, which is likely to ease pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. Data released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday showed that, excluding the more volatile food and energy categories, the core CPI rose 0.2% month-on-month in July. The year-on-year increase was 2.5%, matching the lowest growth rate since March 2021. Overall, the CPI increased by 0.1% month-on-month and 3.4% year-on-year in July.
- Market analyst Chris Anstey stated that both the overall and core US CPI figures this time were completely in line with expectations. In short, these monthly data do not sound any inflation alarm by themselves and are largely consistent with the Federal Reserve's targets. Waller can breathe a sigh of relief for now. However, what he truly needs is for the inflation report in August to deliver similar figures, but for now, “it’s still early.”
