$GRVT World Liberty Financial is going shopping, and the item on the list is its own token. The Trump family-linked DeFi project will introduce a program to repurchase $WLFI, its governance token.
How the new buyback is supposed to work
The program was unveiled on November 6, 2026, according to the research findings. It will be funded by initial allocations from several sources.
One of those sources stands out: fees from the reserves backing $USD1, World Liberty’s stablecoin. Put simply, the money behind the dollar token helps generate income, and some of that income will now flow toward buying $WLFI.
The stated goals go beyond the usual tokenomics. The project says the buyback should encourage active participation in governance and concentrate voting power among committed, long-term holders.
The mechanism is fairly intuitive. When the protocol buys tokens from holders who want out, those tokens leave circulation. Holders who stay end up with a larger relative share of the voting pie.
World Liberty is positioning this as a long-term, ongoing effort rather than a one-off. Its scale and pace are expected to adjust as the $WLFI ecosystem grows, and the program is described as scalable based on how the protocol performs overall.
The project also frames the buyback as a way to reward long-term stakeholders, not to fuel short-term trading. Buyback activity is set to be reported publicly, part of the transparency mechanisms the initiative is built on.
A sequel to a vote that was barely a contest
This is not World Liberty’s first buyback. In September 2025, a governance proposal sought to redirect 100% of fees collected from protocol-owned liquidity across multiple blockchain networks toward open-market $WLFI purchases.
The proposal passed with 99.8% approval.
Those earlier buybacks were intended to shrink circulating supply by burning the repurchased tokens. Burning means sending tokens to an address nobody can access, effectively deleting them from the market.
The protocol has already put that mandate to work. Multiple buybacks were carried out in late 2025, including one of approximately $10 million that repurchased 59 million $WLFI tokens.
The new program appears to broaden that earlier effort. The 2025 mechanism leaned on liquidity fees, while the 2026 version adds revenue generated by the stablecoin’s reserves to the funding mix.
What World Liberty actually is
$WLFI is the governance token of a decentralized finance project associated with the Trump family. Its main lines of business are lending markets and the $USD1 stablecoin.
Governance tokens let holders vote on protocol decisions, such as how fees are spent or which proposals move forward. The September 2025 buyback itself came about through exactly that kind of vote.
What this means for holders and the broader market
For $WLFI holders, the clearest effect is on supply. A protocol that keeps buying its own token creates recurring demand, and if repurchased tokens are removed, the remaining supply gets tighter over time.
The research findings suggest the program may increase token scarcity and could support $WLFI’s value over time.
Tying buybacks to stablecoin reserve fees means $WLFI’s demand engine now partly runs on $USD1 adoption. If the stablecoin grows, the buyback budget likely grows with it. If it stalls, the program’s adaptive design suggests the pace would slow too.
The transparency commitment will be the test. Public reporting of buyback activity lets anyone check whether purchases match the stated goals and funding sources.

$GRVT Coinbase’s October 30 deadline to restrict non-compliant stablecoins has disrupted the European market, prompting traders to explore decentralized exchanges as an alternative.
However, at the same time, it has also raised questions about whether these alternatives can offer the same access to liquidity and trading flexibility as centralized exchanges (CEXs).
In an email to AMBCrypto, Quinten van Welzen, Head of Growth at Zano, said,
Coinbase’s deadline shows why access to decentralized trading is becoming increasingly important, not just for privacy coins but for stablecoins too.
Here, Welzen is expressing the broader concerns about the dependence on CEXs. He believes that when platforms restrict certain assets to meet regulatory requirements, users often tend to lose access to familiar trading routes even if they continue holding those tokens in self-custody wallets.
Why is this important for decentralized trading?
So, decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and peer-to-peer swaps offer alternative ways to trade without relying on a single centralized intermediary. However, these options also come with challenges, including fractured liquidity, limited trading pairs, technical complexity, and their own regulatory exposure.
Naturally this prompted a question on whether DEXs can provide reliable, liquid, and accessible alternatives as CEXs adapt to regulatory requirements or whether users will simply move their dependence to DEXs.
Responding to which, Welzen added,
Decentralized exchanges aren’t immune to regulation, and liquidity is still a challenge, but this is a reminder that relying on centralized platforms to decide which assets people can trade isn’t a great long-term solution either.
DEXs vs. CEXs
DEXs could offer European users an alternative to centralized platforms following Coinbase’s stablecoin restrictions.
Using smart contracts, DEXs enable users to trade supported assets directly from self-custody wallets without relying on a centralized exchange to list them. Hence, users withdrawing $USDT or $DAI could potentially trade these tokens through DEXs or peer-to-peer swaps, provided suitable trading pairs are available.
However, given the aforementioned challenges, it remains to be seen whether DEXs will actually become viable alternatives as CEXs adapt to Europe’s MiCA rules.
Coinbase $USDT nears expiration in Europe
As reported by AMBCrypto, this move follows Coinbase’s compliance with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations, which require stablecoin issuers to meet specific authorization requirements.
The affected assets include Tether’s $USDT, PayPal’s PYUSD, World Liberty Financial’s USD1, $DAI, and PAXG, among others. Since trading and conversions of these assets have already been restricted, users can no longer freely trade them on Coinbase.
This comes as the EUR-pegged stablecoin market has reached a market capitalization of approximately $803 million, with a 1.1% increase over the past 24 hours, and around $65.6 million in daily trading volume.

$GRVT As of Oct. 25, Circle’s USDC made up around 80% of the net 30-day drop among the 13 largest stablecoins, according to monthly DeFiLlama figures.
Circle’s token lost $4.69 billion in the month.
The 13 tokens lost $5.82 billion in net value. USDC’s market cap was $71.743 billion, down $878.72 million just in the last week.
Tether gives up $1.29 billion and keeps a 60.74% share
The total stablecoin market declined to $300.36 billion on Oct. 25. DeFiLlama data shows it has lost $12.73 billion since May 22.
Tether’s USDT fell less over the month. It had a market cap of $182.423 billion, down $1.29 billion in 30 days, down $990.43 million in 7 days and still possesses 60.74% of the market.
The seven-day shrinkage across the 15 largest stablecoins was about $1.90 billion.
Ethena’s USDe fell $305.61 million over the month. World Liberty Financial’s USD1 declined $444.67 million, or 10.10%.
Falcon’s USDf added $511.16 million, a 42.32% increase, while PayPal’s PYUSD added $239.53 million in the same 30-day period.
Tokenized Treasuries shed $1.55 billion since August
Minting stablecoins generally increases supply, while redeeming them for fiat diminishes it, potentially pulling money that might otherwise have gone into buying Bitcoin or Ether.
Supply grew during the 2020-2021 bull market and shrank after Terra’s collapse in 2022, which just so happened to coincide with a protracted crypto bear market. Bitcoin is trading near $80,000, far off its October 2025 record of around $126,000.
Tokenized U.S. Treasury products like BlackRock’s BUIDL and Ondo’s USDY also shrank, declining from $16.2 billion on Aug. 12 to $14.65 billion on Oct. 25, according to data from rwa.xyz.
Those who hold the Treasury tokens can redeem them to buy stablecoins or risk assets or shift cash back into bank accounts. The combined fall was $1.55 billion.
Standard Chartered postponed its prediction of a $2 trillion stablecoin market from 2028 to 2030. The stall in supply growth is cyclical and tied to weak crypto markets, said Geoffrey Kendrick, the bank’s head of digital assets research, who noted supply has been stuck between $300 billion and $320 billion over the past year.
Circle is also defending the economics of USDC. Cryptopolitan reports that Circle’s October 16 blog post disclosed that ~$819 million, or about 59 cents on the dollar, of the company’s ~$1.4 billion revenue in the first half of 2026 went to firms distributing USDC and to transaction costs.
The post was seen as a reaction to Open USD, a rival token launched June 30 that promises free minting and redemption. The consortium behind Open USD says partners can keep all the interest its reserves earn, minus a small management fee.

$GRVT US President Donald Trump hosted a roundtable at the White House on cybercrime, even as he and members of his administration face scrutiny from lawmakers and voters over accusations that they used their positions to enrich themselves with digital assets.
Speaking at the roundtable event on Wednesday, Trump said “countless” Americans lost more than $20 billion from cybercrime in 2025 through impersonation schemes, ransomware attacks, scam centers and other methods. The president added that federal officials had frozen $1 billion in “cybercurrency tied to foreign scammers” and prevented $1.6 billion in losses in 2025 from going to criminals engaging in cybercrime following a March executive order.

Notably, neither the president nor Attorney General Todd Blanche explicitly used the term “cryptocurrency” or “digital assets” when discussing the scams affecting many Americans, despite reports before the roundtable signaling a crackdown on foreign crypto scams would be the focus of the event. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin similarly only referred to “digital extortion.” “Cybercurrency,” the word Trump used, is a dated term for what many people now call cryptocurrency.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that Americans had lost $11 billion from scams in 2025 specifically related to digital assets, including through crypto ATMs. Cointelegraph reached out to the White House for comment on the roundtable but did not receive an immediate response.
The president and his family are tied to several crypto ventures which Trump reported netted him $1.4 billion in 2025, while his alleged “schemes” cost investors about $4.7 billion, according to a Public Citizen report. His family’s crypto company, World Liberty Financial, also faces scrutiny for its USD1 stablecoin being used to settle a $2 billion investment in Binance by an entity tied to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the United Arab Emirates.
Trump’s memecoin project, Official Trump (TRUMP), is hosting another dinner for tokenholders on Nov. 22. Similar events organized by the team behind the memecoin have prompted accusations from lawmakers and interest groups of Trump selling access to the presidency through “pay-to-play” schemes.
Italian police arrest 30 people in crypto money laundering scheme
The White House roundtable followed reports that Italian authorities arrested 30 people for using crypto to launder millions of dollars through a bank allegedly tied to the mafia. According to Bloomberg, Italy’s police were investigating a criminal network that sent money from corporate fraud, crypto investment scams, and drug trafficking to digital wallets.
